Lot Essay

"One of the most impressive things about Margarita Lozano's work is the dedication displayed by the artist to evoke the true essence of each of the objects she portrays. There appears to be a convincing life inherent in every fruit, flower or other component of her pictures. The great art historian Meyer Schapiro described, in a famous essay, the sensuality of the apples in Czanne's numerous still lifes. Each of the apples, states Schapiro, has a voluptuousness of its own. Something similar might be said of the ingredients of the paintings of Margarita Lozano..."
