Lot Essay

The degree of hollowing, perfect formal integrity and concave, oval foot links this bottle to the broad category of plain jade snuff bottles illustrated by Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles, The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Hong Kong, 1995, vol. I, Jade, pp. 426-465, nos. 166-184.

In shape, it compares favorably with the so-called 'Emerald Glow Jadeite' bottle, ibid, p. 458-459, no. 181, though being slightly smaller; and in color appears to be the so-called 'Emerald- Contemplation Jadeite' bottle, ibid, pp. 456-457, no. 180.
