A market near a fountain by a classical ruin in an Italian piazza

Italianate market scenes such as the present lot, seem to have been the artist's speciality, as observed by A. Houbraken in his Groote Schouburgh, III, p.362, who describes him as a painter "die gemeenlijk Italiaansche groenmarkten schilderde" [who commonly painted Italianate vegetable markets].
