The dragons on this jar, with their slender, scrolling, foliate bodies, are similar to those found on an embroidered kesi table frontal, dated 1670-1730, and illustrated by R. Kerr, Chinese Art and Design, New York, 1991, pp. 114 and 115, no. 44. A slightly more mature version of this type of dragon is found on Yongzheng mark and period dishes decorated in the center with a dragon leaping amidst clouds, such as the dish in the Freer Gallery of Art, illustrated by M. Beurdeley and G. Raindre, Qing Porcelain, London, 1987, p. 167, fig. 231.
