A SET OF FOUR VICTORIAN SILVER FIGURAL COMPOTES
Maker's mark of John Samuel Hunt, London, 1856-1857; the dishes maker's mark of Hunt & Roskell, London, 1899
Each on a triangular base on three acanthus and shell feet, with bands of acanthus and bead-and-reel, the stem formed as grape vines with pendant grapes, flanked by fully-modelled figures of children each representing a different country pursuit including catching butterflies, feeding chickens, tending sheep, and bagging birds, the circular dishes with basketweave border of flowers and scrolls, the bases engraved on one side with a crest and motto, the center of dishes engraved with a coat-of-arms and the same crest and motto, marked on bases, figures and dishes
