Lowry and the present owner often went sketching together in the old area behind Piccadilly in Manchester on Sunday mornings. Lowry became very fond of this house and made several drawings of it. A similar composition is illustrated as pl.149 in M. Levy, The Drawings of L.S. Lowry Public and Private, London, 1976.
