Lot Essay

The form of the present milk-jug recalls that of 17th century French ceramics. Equally, the spout is inspired by the Vincennes model for a broc 'Roussel' and the flat circular foot from that of a pot l'eau ' la Romaine. Cf. Marcelle Brunet and Tamara Praud, Svres, Des origines nos jours, Paris, 1978, fig. 285

Denis Lev, active at Vincennes and Svres as a painter of flowers, patterns and birds, 1754-1793, 1795-1805.
