Circa 1778, underglaze blue sceptre mark
Painted with the arms of the Russian Empire accolle with those of Holstein-Gottorp in black, iron-red, blue and gold inscribed on the crowned, black double-headed eagle, supporting another imperial crown, within a gilt line rim

Lot Essay

Commissioned from the factory 5 June 1778 by Frederick the Great, the present example is from the second service given to Duke Paul of Russia, later Czar Paul I, whose father, Peter III, was Karl Friedrich, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp.
