A small Dutch silver auricular poringer and cover
Maker's mark indistinct, also struck with a Dutch duty mark, possibly 19th Century
In the manner of Christiaan and Adam van Vianen, bellied circular form with two cast dragon mask and tail scroll handles and four stubby feet, the body chased and embossed with a grotesque scene of stylised dragons biting at each other, auricular masks and stylised dolphins bordering two vignettes depicting Ariadne and Bacchus, the cover raised in high relief with recumbant dragon it's wings spread and it's head and tail lowered, amidst wave like auricular ground, scratched underneath the base with no. 183
