Mumei, 19th Century
The blade hira zukuri, deep zori, itamehada with ji-nie, gunome-komidare hamon of nioi, a koshi-bi both sides, ubu nakago, 14.7/8in. (37.8cm.); in its brown broad ribbed lacquer saya grained as wood, the upper part black with narrow ribbing, shibuichi fuchi-kashira with two chinese figures in low relief, gilt details, shibuichi kurikata and kojiri carved with figures, gilt details, the kojiri signed Naotoshi, mokkogata copper ishimeji tsuba, cranes and the moon in gilt takazogan, shakudo nanako rim, signed Haruaki, large shibuichi menuki formed as snakes, shibuichi koiguchi with a shippo design, shibuichi kozuka carved with Hotei (minor old damage), 19th century
