A KATANA AND A WAKISASHI
Katana Mei: Sukesada, 16th century, Wakizashi Mei: Sasshu ju Motohira, Edo ni oite wo zukuri and dated Kansei yonen [1792]
The katana blade, honzukuri and very shallow koshizori, the detail obscured by rubbing, several small kizu,ubu nakago, 27in. (69.2cm.); in a scabbard of black, green and gold wakasa-nuri with silver migaki-ji handachi fittings, gilt and shakudo menuki of grapevines and soft metal tsuba; the wakizashi blade, honzukuri and very hamon with profuse nie extending to the shinogi, hakkakeru boshi and ubu nakago, 14in. (37cm.), in a scabbard decorated with a dragon in coloured takamakie on a stylised cloud ground, fitted with a shakudo and gilt dragon kozuka, a silvered copper tsuba with a horse and a willow tree in katakibori, signed Furukawa Uji, and a shibuichi fuchi-kashira with festival dancers, signed Heianjo ju Ichinomiya Kenryushi Nagayoshi and kao (2)
