(Some spotting, one sheet browned, lower margins of about 12 leaves damaged and repaired, one corner torn, a few minor marginal repaired tears, occasional light dampstain at extreme margin.) 17th-century vellum, title lettered in gilt on spine, vellum flyleaves, evidence of earlier index tabs (small wormholes at spine). Provenance: several neat corrections and additions written in a neat contemporary hand.
Brunet considers this dictionary a corrected and augmented reprint of the Aldine Greek-Latin dictionary of 1497 which, although nowhere stated in the volume, was the work of Crastonus, edited by Marcus Musurus. The contemporary owner of this volume added and corrected the text in a number of instances, adding bibliopole, and pointing out that the Greek gwnismameans coconut palm, not palm [of the hand].
