The Bear Inn, depicted on the extreme right of the picture, was a renowned gathering place for 'the rendezvous of gay youth of Westminster on Sunday evenings' (see H. Phillips, The Thames about 1750, 1951, p. 214). Alongside the Bear Inn is Westminster Hall and Westminster Abbey, with St. Stephen's Chapel and St. John the Evangelist Smith Square beyond.
