The Night Mails at the General Post Office: Arrival; and Departure

The General Post Office was designed by Sir Robert Smirke and built in 1829. The building was used as a combined post office, sorting office and administrative centre, and at night it was lit by a thousand gas burners. It was demolished in 1912.
