Lot Essay
As first conceived by John Nash in the early 19th century, Lower Regent Street had a semi-residential character, containing the fashionable United Service Club and Nash's own house at No. 14, the grand Italianate block on the right. This view looks north from alongisde the portico of St. Philip's Episcopal Chapel, designed by G.S. Repton, towards the County Fire Office at the southern end of the Quadrant. The chapel was demolished in 1904 for the building of Carlton House. Nos. 14-16 were replaced by Dorland House after the First World War.
