A pair of 2-inch (6.4cm.) diameter miniature globes, the terrestrial OUTLINE OF THE EARTH SMITH & SON, LONDON made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, the equatorial and Greenwich meridian ungraduated, the ecliptic not shown, the continents with faint traces of red colouring and little detail beyond place names and some rivers, the Antarctic labelled SUPPOSED ANTARCTIC CONTINENT, Tasmania labelled as such (very extensive restoration, much of the detail redrawn, areas of discolouration, new varnish); the celestial SMITH'S CELESTIAL GLOBE SMITH & SON, LONDON made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores laid to the ecliptic poles, the equatorial and solstitial and equinoctial colures graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with symbols and month names, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments with some delicate green shading and stars to five orders of magnitude (some old repaired cracks), both spheres with steel axis pins (replacements) in a turned and slightly tapered fruitwood box, the celestial with hand-written note to the interior SMITH CELEST, with turned dome lid with flat knop (knops different) -- 3in. (9.5cm.) high
