An unusual 8.5/8-inch (21.9cm.) diameter opening terrestrial table globe made up of twelve colour printed gores laid onto two hinged steel hemispheres, the equatorial and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the latter running through Iceland, the ecliptic graduated in days, the oceans showing ocean currents, the Antarctic with projected and some definite coastline, the continents with nation states coloured in outline in red, yellow, orange and brown and showing rivers, mountains, towns and cities, Madagascar shown as French, Panama shown as Columbian (surface discolouration with some areas of abrasion), the sphere opening by means of a push-button hinge mechanism at the anti-meridian to reveal black-painted interior with brass edges and two brass hooks beneath the North Pole to fold out for hanging the open sphere, closing around a steel axis rod raised on an ebonised baluster turned column to circular plinth base, applied with a printed paper Zodiac circle showing degrees, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac with pictures and wind directions (abrasions with detail loss) -- 18in. (47cm.) high
