Lot Essay

The inscription in Number 47 reads:
To the Young Woman -
A morning in Room 303 -
A Young Woman wants one
of my New York photographs -
I haven't any -
I wonder why does she
seek one of those photographs.
I wonder why I haven't
any. -
If I were photographing
would the Young Woman be
seeking the photograph?
"What is '291'?" -
And there is Room 303.
A morning in the Room.
