A Cavalry Officer's 1796 Pattern Smallsword

A sword of the pattern worn by officers of Heavy Cavalry (and by those of Household Cavalry before c1830), with 32in. (81cm.) double-edged blade with deep fullers each inscribed JJ Runkel. Solingen, gilt-brass knucklebow guard with boat-shells, and wire-wound grip (gilt of guard somewhat rubbed), now in a good scabbard with brass mounts and shoe, probably for a Household Cavalry Officer's 1832 Pattern Dress sword (see Robson, Plate 98).
