Lieutenant Thomas Lynam Williams was born in Cape Town in May 1920 and joined the 1st City Volunteers Regiment in February 1940. Subsequently commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the S.A.A.F. in May 1943, he went on to complete over 150 hours operational flying time and 73 sorties on the Italian Front as an Air Gunner in 21 Squadron. Williams was advanced to Lieutenant in November 1943 and released from the S.A.A.F. in July 1946.
