The first with octagonal barrel, the top-strap stamped 'Pettengills Patent 1856', rounded frame enclosing the hammer, hinged rammer, and walnut grips (pitted throughout); the second with octagonal barrel stamped with maker's details, closed frame (repaired at the breech), brass trigger-guard, hinged rammer, and walnut grips (pitted and worn throughout)
