A Cased 14-Bore Percussion Sporting Rifle
Third quarter of the 19th Century
With octagonal twist sighted barrel cut with four grooves, and inscribed 'Manton Patent London', ladder back-sight graduated to 800 yards, patent breech, engraved tang, detented lock engraved with scrolls and a tiger, figured walnut half-stock, chequered pistol-grip and fore-end (edges of fore-end replaced), scroll engraved steel furniture, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, set trigger, steel sling swivels, horn fore-end cap, and later wooden ramrod (rib loose), retaining some browned, blued and case-hardened finish: in lined and fitted brass-bound mahogany case with interchangable 12-bore shot barrel en suite (shortened), and accessories including bullet mould and embossed copper powder-flask, the lid with Joseph Lang's trade label for circa 1868-1880 (damaged, case refinished), Birmingham proof marks
