The first signed W.M. Nixon, the second signed C. Piper, Cambridge, each circa 1850
The first with turn-off barrels numbered '3' and '4', signed scroll engraved box-lock action, engraved thumbpiece safety-catch, blued folding trigger, finely chequered figured walnut butt, silver escutcheon, stepped pommel incorporating butt-trap with scroll engraved hinged cover, and much original case-hardened finish (hammer replaced), Birmingham proof marks; the second with signed sighted top barrel, scroll engraved box-lock action and trigger-guard, chequered walnut butt, silver escutcheon, pommel with butt-trap, and stirrup ramrod (barrels refinished, some pitting, nipples replaced), London proof marks
