A PARTHIAN BRONZE APPLIQU
circa 1st-2nd century a.d.
Perhaps from a large cauldron, depicting a well-modelled eagle with its wings out-stretched, the feathers incised in three rows of tongues bisected by a chevroned line, the bird with a broad breast, the feathers indicated throughout as irregular pointed tongues bisected by a chevroned line, the long conical neck with a zig-zag collar, the small head with hooked beak and circular eyes, the talons of the eagle grasping the broad, stippled curved horns of a ram, its head angled down, with bulging eyes and long nose, its pointed ears extended into the arch of the horns, a V-shaped beard below with angled grooves, the tips of the wings and the V-shaped terminus pierced for attachment, a loop above the eagle's head
