ON HIS WORLD TOUR

Written a few weeks after Twain had set out on his year-long, round-the-world lecture tour, which resulted in Following the Equator (published by Bliss in 1897). "...It has been blazing weather all along, but I always have good houses not withstanding, & sometimes they are crowded -- a very handsome compliment. In a number of instances we have had more people in the house than were ever in it before, winter or summer. We dress the carbuncle only once a day, now, and within a week it will be entirely well..."
