MAKER'S MARK OF JOSEPH ANGELL SR. & JR., LONDON, 1845, AND WILLIAM MOODY, 1857

Each on three massive cast scroll feet, chased with strapwork and foliage, rising to a scrolling knop supporting four openwork scrolling branches with similarly chased sockets, with central openwork socket and standard, with shaped circular nozzles and plated central finials, marked on bases, central standards, drip-pans and sockets --26 1/2in. (67.4cm.) high

Lot Essay

The design for these candelabra was patented by Joseph Angell & Son on November 13, 1844. A pair of similar form of the same year was supplied by the firm for presentation by Christian VIII, King of Denmark, to the diplomatist John Hay Hay-Drummond in 1844, sold by Sotheby's, London, May 27, 1971, lot 118.
