A fine late 19th-Century lacquered-brass Powell & Lealand No. 1 stand, compound monocular/binocular microscope,
signed on the arm POWELL & LEALAND, 170 Euston Road LONDON and dated 1897, with rack and pinion coarse and micrometer fine focusing, prism box, the massive finely modelled limb with full mechanical circuit stage adjusted by fine tangent screws with micrometer read-out in fore and aft motion, the silvered circle with finely divided scale, rotation by rack and pinion, the sub-stage attachment and mounting with fine adjustment, the lower limb with plano-concave mirror secured to an articulated arm, the tripod stand with well modelled pad feet, having duplex cork inserts, with a supplementary case of accessories including additional eyepieces engraved POWELL & LEALAND 7., 8., 10., 20., 30., 40., and two other eyepieces, two plush-lined leather cases containing prisms, one signed Powell & Lealand No. 271 patent, the other For low powers & opaque objects, eyepieces include Powell & Lealand .1/8th apochromatic NAO.98, apochromatic NAO.95 and 2th oil immersion NA.1.43, another in. by Wray London, a can labelled in., another with objective labelled 2in., a pair of forceps, mirror and other items, with bull's-eye condenser, all contained in the original mahogany carrying case with lacquered-brass swing handle -- 20in.
