Lot Essay

The painter's mark found on the present tray of a small triangle resembles that used by Antoine Capelle who was active at Vincennes and Svres 1745-1787 and 1790. However, the style of decoration is not consonant with that of other wares attributed to his hand. See the footnote to this painter in David Peters, Decorator and Date Marks on C18th Vincennes and Svres Porcelain, London, 1997, p. 21.
