Charles-Louis Mreaud was active at Svres as a flower and pattern painter, 1756-1780. It is likely that he was responsible only for the rich border decoration and that the central trophy is the work of Charles Buteux, pre, active at the factory from 1756-1782. Buteux's name is associated with the best trophy painting produced at the factory, including that found on a service now divided between the Royal Collection, Buckingham Palace and the Muse Ephrussi de Rothschild.

An ecuelle, cover and stand from the collection of Madame M painted in the same year as the present example with the same frizes riches decoration but by Louis-Jean Thvenet, pre was sold by Ader Tajan, Paris, 18 November 1992, lot 40.
