Lot Essay

Watch-holders of this form probably derive from Meissen originals of circa 1750. Compare the watch-holder and cover, formerly in the Pierre Blazy Collection, Paris, illustrated by M. Beurdeley, op.cit., 1962, cat.89; another by D. Howard and J. Ayers, op.cit., 1978, vol.II, no.586, pp. 565 and 567; and a further example is in the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels, exhibited, Chinese Export Porcelain, 1989-1990, Catalogue no.26, pp.96 and 97.
