The design of these chairs is based on a pattern in George Smith's A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture of 1808, pl.56; and another published in Ackermann's The Repository of Arts in 1814 (reproduced in P.Agius, ed., Ackermann's Regency Furniture and Interiors, 1984, p.95, pl.68).
