Lot Essay

Wisteria was a common Japanese motif adopted by Tiffany & Co. A silver and mixed-metal flacon applied with wisteria, which was exhibited at the 1878 Exposition Universelle, sold in these Rooms, December 10, 1998, lot 315. The French control marks on the present lot indicate this caster also may have been exhibited at the Paris Exposition, but it was certainly retailed from Tiffany's Paris shop.
