Lot Essay

Adam Weisweiler, matre in 1778

The use of distinctive, richly grained veneers such as yew-wood and thuya, the restrained outline and distinctive profile of the legs are all features of the oeuvre of the celebrated bniste Adam Weisweiler. A writing-table by Weisweiler with similar legs is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe Sicle, Paris, 1989, p. 86.
