Lot Essay

One of the most celebrated antiquities excavated in Rome during the 18th century, the Warwick vase was unearthed in Rome during 1771, purchased by Sir William Hamilton and subsequently sold to the Earl of Warwick. The vase is housed today in the Glasgow Museum.
