TWO SMALL ENAMELLED 'DRAGON' SAUCER-DISHES
ENCIRCLED YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD

Each decorated in the interior with two dragons, one in green and aubergine enamels, the other in underglaze-blue, contesting for the flaming pearl, the undersides with four cranes in flight divided by scrolling clouds in a doucai palette (one with a fine hairline)

Lot Essay

A pair of similar saucer-dishes from an Important Private Collection was sold in Hong Kong, 17 May 1988, lot 95. Compare also a pair of dishes included in the Hong Kong O.C.S. Exhibition of Ch'ing Polychrome Porcelain, 1977, Catalogue no. 35, with Kangxi reign marks and the same decoration on a yellow ground; also the Ming prototype illustrated by Geng Baochang, Ming Qing Ciqi Jianding, Mingdai Bufen, p. 140, fig. 147, with a Wanli reign mark and a yellow ground.
