Lot Essay

Private Joe Mason was one of only 16 of all ranks of the Grenadier Guards entitled to the South Africa Medal 1877-79. In the Egyptian Campaigns of 1882, the operations up the River Nile and in the Suakin area, 1884-85 he acted as servant to Lieutenant Dawson of the Coldstream Guards and Camel Corps.
