Colonel John Aitken Wright was born in January 1908 and joined the South African Police Brigade as a Sergeant in the 1st Battalion at Pretoria in July 1940. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the 2nd Battalion in December of the same year, he disembarked at Suez for active service in June 1941. Subsequently engaged in the operations in North Africa, Wright was taken P.O.W. in June 1942 and did not return home until August 1945, following which he pursued a regular career in the Police.
