Hervouet and Bruneau, op. cit., p. 204, tell the story of Sir George, whose retirement from the British East India Company after a brilliant career was sadly cut short by his nephew and heir, Thomas, who, deep in gambling debt, was refused by his uncle with a distrastrous result.
