Cross and feather-banded overall, the cavetto moulded cornice with fluted canted angles, above three short drawers and three graduated long drawers, the lower section with a green baise lined slide, above three graduated long drawers and a sunburst-inlaid apse, on later bracket feet, the reverse with a depository label for 'Mrs. J. M. Davies', extensive restorations, the front reveneered and the sunburst apse later

Lot Essay

This tallboy belongs to a group of similar walnut and burr-walnut tallboys, with the same fluted angles only on the top section, similar drawer arrangements and line inlay and identical sun-bursts: one exhibited by De Havilland Antiques Ltd., illustrated in The Grosvenor House Antiques Fair, Guide, 1978, another, a secretaire-tallboy, sold from the estate of the late Alan Searle Esq., Sotheby's London, 14 November 1986, lot 27, another sold anonymously in these Rooms, 13 April 1989, lot 24; another exhibited by Richard Courtney Ltd., illustrated in The Grosvenor House Antiques Fair, Guide, 1990.
