A George III mahogany and cross-banded knife box, late 18th century
Of serpentine bow fronted form, the sloping cover with inset boxwood conch-shell paterae, the front with stop-fluted pilasters with stylised capitals and bases flanking the white metal shield escutcheon, ebony and fruitwood stringing to the angles, the interior converted for stationery with further chequer stringing -- 15½in. (39.4cm.) high
