LINCOLN, ABRAHAM, President. Autograph endorsement signed ("A. Lincoln") as President, TO SECRETARY OF TREASURY SALMON P. CHASE, [Washington, D.C.], 3 February 1863. Six lines plus signature and date-line on two sides of an oblong card, 50 x 85mm. (2 x 3 1/4 in.).

Lincoln introduces an old friend from Springfield, Illinois, to Secretary Chase: "Sec[retary] of Treasury, please see Mr. [James] Conkling, a good man, who comes as successor of Mr. Campbell, now deceased, as agent to settle account for Illinois..." Coincidentally, Mercy Levering Conkling, Conkling's wife, was Mary Todd Lincoln's closest friend in Springfield until 1861 when the Lincoln's moved to Washington, D.C. Not in Collected Works or Supplements, and apparently unpublished. (Baker, Mary Todd Lincoln, New York, 1989, pp. 78-90).
