A George III oak 30-hour longcase clock, third quarter 18th century
The case with stepped flat top hood with dentil cornice, plain turned pilasters, with square top trunk door and on plinth (split) raised on bracket feet, the 11in. square gilt-brass dial with foliate spandrels to the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, cut steel hands (tip of hour missing), the centre engraved with scene of a ship and signed around the date aperture WILLIAM PAINE TROWBRIDGE, the birdcage movement with outside countwheel strike -- 80¾in. (205cm.) high
