The cavetto moulded cornice above a plain frieze and four geometrically-glazed doors below, the lower section with four ash-lined drawers and slides and four cupboard doors, the side doors enclosing four drawers, the central drawers enclosing two sliding drawers, the underside of one drawer signed 'John Mushet', the underside of another drawer inscribed 'R', three panes cracked

Lot Essay

John Mushet of Craighead is recorded in F. Bamford, A Dictionary of Edinburgh Wrights and Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1983, p. 91 as father of Patrick Mushet, Burgess in 1733. The maker of this bookcase may have been the son or younger brother of Patrick Mushet.
