Lot Essay

Although the vase described by Stephen Bushell and William Laffan, Catalogue of the Morgan Collection of Chinese Porcelains, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1910, no.550 appears to be the same as this vase, the height is listed as 23½ inches; this discrepancy may be explained by the fact that the catalogue included in its description "with carved ebony cover" and this may have been included in the measurements.
