The present watercolour depicts the house of the late Edmund Kean (1787-1833), the maverick actor who retired to Bute The mountains of Arran can be seen in the distance.
Nesfield's watercolours are among the most intelligent pastiches after Turner. A retired army officer, he devoted himself full time to painting in 1816.
