SOUTH PERSIA, 14TH CENTURY
Of slightly curving conical form with angled and slightly sunken shoulder, rising in the centre to the tubular neck, the mouth of banded form, the sides engraved with a wide band of thuluth interrupted by lobed cartouches containing seated princely figures flanked by retainers on a spiralling vine ground with leafy terminals, bands of scrolling floral vine interupted by roundels containing floral motifs above and below, the neck with cusped panels containing standing figures divided by flower stalks, bands of thuluth interupted by floral roundels above and below, some slight denting

Lot Essay

The main inscription around the body reads:
al-'izz li-mawlana al-sultan al-a'zam a[l]-'alim a[l]-'adil a[l]-malik-i riqab al-umam a[l]-sultan al-salatin
(Glory to our Lord the Great Sultan, the wise, the just, the master who curbs all nations, the Sultan of all the sultans)
The other inscriptions are benedictory Persian phrases.
