Of typical form, the exterior engraved with a broad band with roundels containing thuluth inscription on spiralling ground interspersed with minor inscription cartouches against a hatched ground, the base with a band of pendant cartouches engraved with the various owner's names, the interior with a central medallion surrounded by bands of swimming fish and duck, rubbing to high points and majority of silver lacking

Lot Essay

The main inscription in a the large cartouches reads:
al-'izz li-mawlana al-sultan al-a'zam al-malik-i riqab al-umam al-sultan salatin al-'arab w'al-'ajam
(Glory to our Lord the Great Sultan the master who curbs all nations, the Sultan of [all] the sultans of the Arabs and the Persians).
The minor inscription in the quatrefoils between the main cartouches consists of Persian benedictory phrases.

The underside has four later owndership inscriptions in the names of Hajji Sajjan ......., Hajji Muhammad Nasr, Mulla Sultan Muhammad Tuni and 'Abu Talib, the last one dated 1211 (1796-7 AD).
