Lot Essay

After service in the Napoleonic wars on H.M.S. Endymion, Hoppner served as Lieutenant on Commander Lyons' Hecla on Parry's second voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage, 1821-23. He returned (with Parry) as Commander of the Hecla to search for the Passage in 1824-25.
