Captain Nathaniel Johnstone Hutchinson Powell was originally gazetted as a Lieutenant into the East Surrey Regiment in March 1887 and transferred to the Indian Army in June of the following year as an Officiating Wing Officer, 23rd Punjab Infantry. Subsequently attached to the 2nd Punjab Infanty during the 1st and 2nd Miranzai Expeditions of 1891, he was advanced to Captain in March 1898 and died at Meean Meer in September 1900.
