To be dated circa 1650, as it is similar to the Beach at Moonlight, signed, in the Mauritshuis, The Hague, of that time, as is suggested in N. Schadee (ed.), Rotterdamse Meesters uit de Gouden Eeuw, I, 1994, pp.198/9, no.35, ill.
M. Verhoef, Rotterdamse Meesters, op.cit, p.199, pointed out that van der Poel stayed in Scheveningen in 1648, which may have inspired such views.
